The Devine Comedy (La Divina Commedia in Italian) is an epic poem written in 1321. The poem describes Dante’s journey through Hell, Purgatory and Heaven. The journey also signifies allegorically the journey towards God. It is regarded as one of the most important books of Western literature.
The author, Dante Alighieri was an Italian poet and philosopher. He wrote many books, yet he was mostly remembered as the author of The Devine Comedy. In Italy he is known as “il Sommo Poeta” ("the Supreme Poet"). He is also regarded as the father of the Italian language.
