Richard Prince

A private collection functions less in accordance with art historical necessities than with the taste and preferences of the collector. The Goetz Collection in Munich, which includes more than 50 works by Richard Prince, is no exception. Nevertheless, Ingvild Goetz’s particular point of view encompasses all aspects of Prince’s oeuvre, from his photographs of the late 80s through the evolution of his painterly style; more than two decades of work--culminating in Prince’s latest nurse paintings--are documented and discussed here. Created in close collaboration with the artist, this publication reveals a critical review of the works in question, contextualizing them anew with current political, social, and cultural references.
