Despite what the back blurb says, this isn't so much retelling/writing inspired by fairy tales. It's telling tales inspired by other short stories. Some of which classify as a fairy tale, but many are just stories of no particular type or genre. The tales in this anthology do all firmly fall in genre fiction, but it raises the wrong expectations. As such, it does the book a disservice as it is pretty good, with some real good stories, if you're not going for actual fairy tales.*****Neil Gaiman, The Sleeper and the SpindleTim Pratt, The Cold CornerSaladin Ahmed, Without Faith, Without Law, Without Joy****Garth Nix, Losing Her DivinityRick Yancey, When First We Were Gods***Carrie Ryan, That the Machine May Progress EternallyHolly Black, MillcaraMargaret Stohl, SiroccoMelisssa Marr, AwakenedKelley Armstrong, New ChicagoKami Garcia, The Soul CollectorGene Wolfe, Uncaged
