Descripción
The Franklin Library Limited Edition hardcover of The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri includes a translation by John Ciardi, with illustrations by Gustave Doré. There are explanations of the cantos preceding them, and notes contained at the back of the text.
Ciardi's translation is lucid prose, allowing the text to be more easily grasped -- though there are both notes and explanations of the cantos, should the reader have any difficulty. The illustrations of Gustave Doré are present throughout the text, helping the reader to visualize Dante's progression through the Inferno, Purgatorio, and ultimately into Paradiso. Dante's personal journey reveals much about both his own character, as well as his religion and its views on the afterlife.
