Descripción

In a gripping tale of motherhood and the complexities of familial bonds, Ashley Audrain weaves a narrative that explores the darker sides of parenthood. The story follows a woman who grapples with her own troubled past while navigating the trials of raising her daughter. As she reflects on her upbringing, she becomes increasingly aware of the fears and anxieties that plague her.

With a keen eye for psychological detail, the author delves into the protagonist's internal struggles as she confronts the haunting question: what if she is destined to repeat the cycle of trauma that shaped her own childhood? The tension mounts as she begins to suspect that her daughter might harbor a similarly unsettling nature, leading her to question everything she knows about love and sacrifice.

The atmospheric writing creates a captivating backdrop, making the reader feel the weight of the protagonist's fears and doubts. The unfolding drama forces one to consider the complexities of parental instinct and the far-reaching effects of choice and consequence within the family dynamic.

As the narrative unfolds, it challenges the notion of what it means to be a mother. In a riveting exploration of vulnerability, Audrain's tale compels readers to confront their own perceptions of motherhood and the legacy one leaves behind. The story lingers, long after the last page, prompting reflection on the intricate web of love and fear that binds us to our children.

Oh, wow! I finished this in one sitting, I just couldn't put it down. It's an unsettling, gripping read about inherited family trauma, gut instincts, and motherhood taboos. Thoroughly recommend.

This book was a little hard to get into. I think the second person POV threw me a bit. But after that it was a good story. Very dark and sad. A little bit like The Perfect Child but the ending of this was so much better. I know this story is about the mom and child mostly, but gosh, I hate dads like that. His wife was struggling when their daughter was first born and he just goes on ignoring her issues and leaving, not realizing shes stuck in her own personal hell without reprieve. So irritating.
