Descripción
The curtain falls on the last macabre scene of the play The Japanese Mistress. Joan Parry, in the audience, decides to go backstage and renew her acquaintance with Umehana, the leading actress, whom she'd known at school. By this impulsive act she finds herself drawn into Umehana's world of theatre, so different from her own.
With her teacher-husband James, she becomes entwined with the lives of Raymond Quent, Umehana's director and lover, Harold Brown, author of the play, Gregory Bond, MP, whose career always comes first, and Jack Mitchell, one of James' pupils.
By the time Joan regrets her involvement with her schoolfriend the wheel of events has begun to turn and there is no stopping it - at least not before two deaths and a mysterious disappearance...
