Descripción
As a cassandra sangue, or blood prophet, Meg Corbyn can see the future when her skin is cut — a gift that feels more like a curse. Meg’s Controller keeps her enslaved so he can have full access to her visions. But when she escapes, the only safe place Meg can hide is at the Lakeside Courtyard — a business district operated by the Others.
Shape-shifter Simon Wolfgard is reluctant to hire the stranger who inquires about the Human Liaison job. First, he senses she’s keeping a secret, and second, she doesn’t smell like human prey. Yet a stronger instinct propels him to give Meg the job. And when he learns the truth about Meg and that she’s wanted by the government, he’ll have to decide if she’s worth the fight between humans and the Others that will surely follow.

Ver todoI kept meaning to start this, because I adore the Dark Jewels series, and I kept reading five pages or so and bouncing off. I want to state it is worth getting into the meat of the book, but it does take a bit longer to warm up than Dark Jewels does. The characters and their interactions tend to be the charm of Anne Bishop books for me, and this holds true here. It's funny and creepy and tense in quite a few places, and watching our naïve heroine accidentally befriend people is fun, even as you occasionally smack your hand to your head that she's missing things. She has good reason to, which helped mitigate any annoyance from that. Now that things are going and it seems like the plot for the full series (?) is starting to pick up, I'm interested to see where these go.
