Dietrich Buxtehude was a prominent German-Danish composer and organist of the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods. Born in Helsingborg, Sweden, he moved to Germany where he became a significant figure in the development of organ music and vocal compositions. His works are characterized by their intricate counterpoint and innovative use of harmony, which laid the groundwork for future composers, particularly Johann Sebastian Bach.
