Luke Howard
درباره نویسنده
Luke Howard was an English chemist and meteorologist, best known for his classification of clouds. Born in London in 1772, he began his career as a pharmacist before delving into the study of meteorology. In 1803, he published his influential work, "The Climate of London," which provided detailed observations of weather patterns in the city. His cloud classification system, introduced in 1802, categorized clouds into three main types: cirrus, cumulus, and stratus, a system still used today. Howard's work laid the foundation for modern meteorology and significantly advanced the understanding of atmospheric phenomena.
Apart from his contributions to meteorology, Howard was also interested in the intersection of chemistry and the environment. He was a member of the Royal Society and actively engaged in discussions about the impact of human activities on climate. His legacy continues to influence both meteorological research and environmental science, making him a pivotal figure in the history of these fields.
