5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️”𝑭𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒎 𝒐𝒇 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅𝒔.“ 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒊𝒔𝒕: The world-building, the Four Londons, the enchanting magic, and the dynamic between Kell and Lila made this an unforgettable adventure.𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒔𝒆: A Darker Shade of Magic follows Kell, one of the last magicians who can travel between the parallel Londons, and Delilah Bard, a daring thief chasing adventure, as they become involved in dangerous magic that affects all the Londons.𝑴𝒚 𝑻𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔 Written in third-person POV, this fast-paced fantasy swept me into an adventure of a lifetime.The world-building was stunning, with vividly defined places and characters. Every description of the four Londons—especially Red London—made me long to experience it in person. As Kell (the MMC) travels through these worlds, you, as the reader, are compelled to feel the shift in vibe and aura of each place.I really want to appreciate the author and her writing here, because the distinction between the Londons was incredible. When Lila (the FMC) says, “𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝘆, 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲, 𝗥𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝘂𝗹𝗹, 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗽𝘆, 𝗞𝗲𝗹𝗹, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻,” I couldn’t agree with her more.The plot was captivating and full of mystery. A constant suspense lingered throughout, centered on Black London and its lost magic, which I really enjoyed. The pacing was just right drawing me deep into the story’s mystery, magic, and darkness…“𝑰’𝒅 𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒅𝒊𝒆 𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒅𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍.”Now, let’s talk about the characters:- Kell was a raw and powerful presence. He’s not your typical hero—he has flaws, and he fully owns them. He is aware that being an Antari (one of the few who can travel between the worlds) is a rare gift, he still questions “why him,” yet never lets that doubt diminish his strength.- Lila was amazing—smart, bold, and recklessly fearless. She had a clear sense that she was meant for more, and she took risks to seek the adventure (or danger) worthy of her. I loved that about her—the courage to act, even knowing things could go very wrong.Moreover, I loved the contrast between the main characters—𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗞𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗮 “𝗳𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵,” 𝗟𝗶𝗹𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗮 “𝗵𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲.” While Kell was calm and calculated, Lila was bold and spontaneous. They lived worlds apart (literally) with very different personalities, yet somehow felt so alike—risk-takers, fighting for each other, and unstoppable in their determination.“𝑾𝒂𝒔 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒗𝒂𝒅𝒐 𝒂 𝒇𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒕, 𝒐𝒓 𝒅𝒊𝒅 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒕𝒓𝒖𝒍𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒔𝒐 𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒆? 𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒂 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒂 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒂𝒍𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒃𝒆 𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒕. 𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝒏𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈, 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒅𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉?“I really loved the character growth—it was subtle, yet so loud. Be it Kell, moving from hiding in the shadows to someone who didn’t hold back, or Lila, shifting from reckless abandon to finding a clear purpose in life. It was a joy to follow the journey of these two young adults as they find purpose, meaning, and strength in life. The most powerful and mesmerizing thing in this story was the magic. Every moment felt alive with magic—dark or not, it was impossible to put down! The book was also action-packed, full of adrenaline-inducing, unpredictable, and chaotic scenes. Be warned, though—there’s quite a bit of graphic violence, so discretion is advised.“𝑴𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒄 𝒘𝒂𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓; 𝒊𝒕 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒚 𝒉𝒂𝒅. 𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒗𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒔 𝒇𝒆𝒍𝒕 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒗𝒆𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒊𝒕, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒊𝒕.”But I felt the ending was a bit underwhelming. There was so much mystery, so much at stake, and so many lives lost—just for things to wrap up like that? All the darkness, all the life-or-death situations Kell went through, it didn’t feel like all that struggle paid off. For me, the ending just wasn’t as satisfying as the rest of the story.𝑻𝑳;𝑫𝑹Overall, this fast-paced fantasy swept me into the four Londons—full of magic, danger, and action-packed moments. Kell and Lila, so different yet so alike, were unforgettable. The plot kept me hooked and the world-building was stunning, though the ending felt a bit underwhelming to me.
