There’s something so deeply vulnerable about following Maxi, this timid, stuttering girl who’s spent her whole life shrinking herself, as she’s suddenly married to Riftan, a man who loves her with this overwhelming, almost painful intensity. Their relationship is awkward and fragile at first, filled with misunderstandings and quiet longing, but that’s exactly what makes it so disgusting.I loved the world-building so much more than the actual story or characters, which honestly felt like such a letdown. The setting was rich, immersive, and full of potential, the kind of world you just want to sink into and explore forever. But everything happening within that world? The character choices, the relationship dynamics, the emotional beats, they all fell flat compared to how stunning the backdrop was. It’s frustrating when the world feels magical, textured, and alive… but the story moving through it doesn’t live up to what it promises.── .✦°˖➴Riftan:It makes absolutely no sense, and it honestly ruins so much of what could’ve been a beautifully soft, emotional dynamic. You give me a man who yearns, who protects, who clearly loves with his whole chest… and then you throw that trope in? For what? Shock value? Drama? Because all it does is break the trust between reader and story.If you want him to be intense, conflicted, possessive, or emotionally closed-off, there are a hundred ways to write that without crossing a line that fundamentally changes how we see him. Turning a tender, aching romance into something tainted just feels lazy and unnecessary. It takes a character who could’ve been complex and lovable and makes him instantly harder to root for.Honestly, it’s one of the most frustrating choices an author can make.>>> ──────── .✦.✿˖
