This book kept me so engaged once I got past the first couple of chapters. It was told in a narrative style that made it so easy to forget you were reading nonfiction. My heart hurts for the Osage tribe and I can't believe I never learned about this is school. I also loved the Tom White arc. I do feel like the core of the story, which I believe to be about the Osage, got a little lost in this section but we came back to them in the final section. I saw someone else say that they wished they had a family tree, and I would have to agree but I can understand why that would be too difficult to include as an illustration because of how intertwined the families were.I'm already looking to pick up more David Grann books.
This had the bones of something really good but ultimately did not deliver on what it promised me. I found the narrative scattered and difficult to keep up with, constantly going off on tangents. Mostly though, I was promised the birth of the FBI and this fell far short of satisfying that. The content itself is really interesting but could have used better editing and continuity.
