I couldn't even get into the first chapter. Idk why I thought I would like this since I never like literary fiction. As always, it's just way too pretentious for me.
2.5?If it was half the size I'd probably liked it. There was no need to stretch it out so much. Not even half way through I lost my interest and it hasn't been picked again. Had such high hopes for it, don't get the hype sorry
I am kicking myself for letting this book sit on my bookshelf for so many years unread. This may be one of the best books I have ever read.Richard is an unreliable narrator but the way he fell in love with this eclectic group shaped the way I fell in love with them all. They all infuriated me in waves and I got angry at their actions, but I was also so fond of them all that when things happened to them I really felt for them. They intrigued me in the beginning as they did Richard, and by the time we really learn their flaws we've already become so fond of them that it's almost too late to back out. Julian collected such a mix of students that so obviously intrigued him, created such a volatile concoction of personalities that are so compelling to watch interact with each other.I fully understand why this book is touted as a modern classic, and I fully recommend that anyone who has had even an inkling to pick this book up to please read it. You won't regret it.
[4.5/5]That wasn't a brochure, Richard. That was a Jumanji boardgame you found.
Finishing this book actually hurt; I miss the characters.
