Though from this view of human nature, the ancients rationally inferred the exd'cence Of a future fiatez yet from the light of the Gofpel only can we fatisfaétorally refolve thefe riddles, and explain thefe otherwife inextrif cable difficulties. Lookat man in' himielf, and without an eye to a future world; and he is a perfeét myfiery; Look at him, as a can didato for an eternal, an unéhangeable inherit; ance; as a probationer in a world of trial, as a' pafiing pilgrim thro' the defert of life to the manfions of uninterrupted repofe -and the myfiery at once is cleared up. All is confident, great and good. Trials and afiiiétions, feen in this view no longer amaze or perplex us we fee, in them, the hand of a wife con duétor, and are able to difcern, that they alfo Work for the good Of Man.
