Beth Jennings discovers, quite by accident, that her husband Charlie is about to spend his ‘solo’ holiday at a beautiful French chateau with his colleague, Clare. He’ll admit to nothing but Beth doesn’t believe him, and makes him take along his wife and teenage daughters. This is how she ends up having a truly dreadful holiday in a semi-ruined castle, with a cast of dysfunctional drunks, an undercover Catholic priest and her husband’s mistress. It’s one disaster after another, but by the end of the week in Purgatory some will have found love, some will have lost it, one person will be dead – and everyone will be changed.
