Here I am....sobbing...That alone gives this 5* for meGod this book really knew how to build you up an wrench every emotion out of you. Everything is so visceral. Each moment so important. Each thread pulling in the right ways. The follow of with this story seeing the battle Will has to face with the truth and with the lie he must say to protect himself makes him such a compelling character. The code of morality is so grey but everyone is so determined to see it as black and white and ultimately that is the crux of the issue. Every scene with James adds new layers to it as well. Hes such an interesting character in this situation. There are echos of Laurent in him (from Captive prince) but they for me almost gives even more insight into the kind of person he is and it FACINATES ME. There is also a lot between him and will thats a fight of is this real or echos of the past. Its the fight between emotions that you think are not yours and what you feel - its what I wanted from forth wing and never got and here is is hurting me so.Violet, Cyperian and Elizabeth oh precious babies caught up in it all by virtue of their stations. I love how all of these characters have their moments. The story is as much theirs as it is Wills and it helps piece the puzzle together so well. It also stops wills narrative being the only one and we get the web of truth of the situation and understand why everyone is exactly where they are meant to beThere are some points where I feel the way character recount the past to others was a bit jarring. Almost like the writitng was just dumped in and quotes put round it so it didnt quite feel like natural conversations but I am absolutely willing to overlook that because the rest was structured so well. Every point is mentioned always follows through. If you read something that seems like a side line note IT MORE THAN OFTEN SUPER ISNT. The amount of times a reveal happens and I look back and realise (just like in all her other books) all the hints were there, I was just acting the same as the characters and didnt want to see them.If you like the first book, you will deffinately love this one. The ending will devistate you though. I cannot go into why without spoiler but just a warning to buckle up buddy its a wild rideI now have to face the wait for book three and I AM NOT OKAY WITH THAT GOD DANG IT
