What a day! Over lunch Chloe received a wedding proposal that rivalled Fitzwilliam Darcy’s in lack of romanticism, which proposal she rejected instantly and eloquently. That afternoon she met up-and-coming novelist Dane Inglethorpe. Then that evening she found herself agreeing to fly all the way to New Zealand to take on a home restoration / redecoration project for her new acquaintance.

Within weeks of her arrival in New Zealand she found herself falling in love with the project, with New Zealand, and most of all with Dane, and — it seemed — he with her. But then she discovered the devastating truth: Dane, unnoticed at another table that first day, had overheard the wedding proposal and her rejection, had thought she would make great copy for his new novel, and had decided to string her along in a bogus romance just to get more material! How could she leave before the project so dear to her heart was complete? But how could she stay? And most of all . . . why, oh why, couldn’t Dane’s love have been sincere?
