2.5 stars rounded to 3 stars. This was a book club read-a-along. Everyone was mad at me including myself because we thought this would be a mystery instead of people running around and nothing happening. oops.I really wish I could've liked this book. But maybe the author could've had the MC actually grow a backbone and develop her own personality in the story instead about worrying what her mom and aunts would think all the time. We had to go through so much of Meddy wanting to keep the peace and then when she finally exploded on her mom and aunts on her family dynamics, it only resulted in a monumental centimeter of growth. Even the epilogue where its revealed she moved out of her mom's place but not that far away and her mom still comes over everyday?! girl, go to therapy.Romance was a joke because the love interest was just a Hot Guy and there was nothing else to him. He was perfect and he was just perfect in everything.I appreciated the efforts from the author to bring in her personal experiences to inform the story and the Asian representation here. That's 1.5 stars right there.
