Spaulding awakens in National Palace several months ago with an abdominal wound, and part of his memory erased. Worse, his former arch-nemesis, Lord Froylan, is now his servant.

After surviving a foiled assassination attempt by a rogue Äimite guard named Lord Tamerlan, Spaulding has suspicions his disconcerting ally Lord Froylan has an ulterior agenda.
