This novella has a brilliant, timeless premise about the duality of human nature, and Mr. Hyde is genuinely unsettling. The mystery builds well, and it’s easy to see why the story became so influential.However, the pacing can feel slow, and the heavy use of letters and secondhand narration creates emotional distance. We’re told about Jekyll’s struggle more than we truly feel it.

‘If he be Mr. Hyde,’ he had thought, ‘I shall be Mr. Seek.’ I hadn't gone into this thinking there would be some comedy but I did chuckle at this line.
It was a relatively short and sweet, suspenseful, tense and full of detail with the exception of the experiments. I wish, in that regard, we got more but I came away satisfied.
