Drawing Restraint Volume VI is a photographic narration of the film Drawing Restraint 17, a co-production between Matthew Barney and Schaulager. The film and the publication were produced by the artist on the occasion of the exhibition 'Matthew Barney. Prayer Sheet with the Wound and the Nail', Schaulager, 2010.

The story told is a contemporary allegory inspired by the sixteenth-century painting 'Death and the Woman' by Hans Baldung (called Grien) in which the basic elements of the Drawing Restraint series are set in the Basel locality and at Schaulager.

The sequence of images is choreographed by sheets of handmade Lama Li paper inserted into the book, some of which have been torn individually by hand. This natural variation makes each book unique.
