The complexity of the planet of Arrakis and the total immersion of the reader into Fremen culture, as well as the detailed descriptions of political tensions bring this book's world building to the next level. It is astounding how one author can create such a complex world from scratch and write about every aspect of an imaginary culture and way of life.
This is a classic si-fi novel. There is a large amount of world building spread over 6 novels, prequels (The whole 9 yards) and Yes! Worms! lots of them. There is a reason why lots of peeps on GR read this. It's good! Not five star. I recommend this to people.
I don't like sand. It's coarse, and rough, and irritating, and it gets everywhere.
