Love the mix of humour and deep thought provoking moments. The underlying plot is getting very interesting too. This series definitely feels like a modern nod to The Running Man by Stephen King.
4.5 stars- I loved this one, but book 1 still has my heart. I love how donut is coming into her own & Carl is taking her ideas seriously. The ending was a bit of an expected twist. I deduced the method & subjects for the last fight scene about halfway through the book (maybe more like 75%) but the ending and epilogue were very unexpected.All in all, I love the overwhelming teamwork in this book. Makes your heart a little warmer after reading so much doom & gloom.
I can see why so many ppl rate this as their least favorite in the series. The whole train system was so confusing and even tho Dinniman says you dont really need to understand it there were parts where it didn't make sense to keep going into such great detail. But I really appreciated the stuff he was doing with the side characters in this one and the ending was really rewarding. I was gonna take a break before getting into book 4 but the ending made me want to jump right back into it lol
