Spoiler3.5 A fun fantasy - we have a strong, guarded Native American woman with a violent past as our anti-hero. She draws on her clan's powers in times of need, whilst dealing with an inner conflict. She gains a charming sidekick who has his own talents and they must deal with the old gods who returned to Earth after the great flood that killed most of the population, along with the old myths, including monsters. There was a lot packed into this book, the chapters felt like the building blocks for an upcoming series and seems promising. The pacing and character development could be better, but this is a debut novel so understandable. The descriptions are very well written ans vivid. Also, one bit gave me a good chuckle - the indigenous tribes building their own, beautiful wall. This was like Mad Max meets Sabriel, with elements of The Crow.
