So, it was a thumbs-up for me.You can fly through it in one sitting if you are interested in it. I wasn't! I actually skipped some parts to get it finished. 2. Different ways of narrating the story: bullet points and script formats. 3. It felt different from I always read. And considering it is a cancer book, it is a new take on these type of books. 4.I like the cover. Isn't it gorgeous? What I didn't like about this book:1. Way too many swear words and language for my taste. I was really disgusted by them. Being from another culture and language plays an important role in my hatred toward this book, I suppose. 2. The MC 's jokes weren't funny to me,and felt forced. 3.I HATED all the characters and didnt relate to them. 4. Once in a while, this book reminded me of Daniel Handler (aka. Lemony Snicket) 's books . And how he advised the reader against reading the rest of the book. This author used the same technique. It was not appealing to me. Seemed like an imitation! Here is an example: If that doesn’t make you drop this book and go watch the movie right now, I don’t even know what’s wrong with you. Maybe you have a brain fungus. The author of this book and I agree on one thing, mentioned in this book, and that is: this book is a disgrace to the English language. To all language.
After I finished reading this book, I wonder if this really a fiction book or someone's real story but narrated in a funny way? The book captures reality of high school life. The main character is not perfect and loving like normal YA Fiction book and one event such as your "not so close friend but you hangout with since your mom think it will be a good idea" currently dying of cancer does not turn you into a saint. In fact, I feel like I can relate with the main character (not his gross humor or his questionable taste in movies), it is the way he does not want to make friends or enemies in highschool and he was underestimating himself the whole time. This book is not for the one who want some kind "emotional touching journey" or "complex story that blows your mind away". This book reminds you about reality of teenager life that does not always involving dating and parties, but deal with your pushy mother or not knowing enough about your friends, your passion or even yourself.
