The Daily Gospel has been at the heart of the Catholic Church for many centuries, but we have now entered a digital age. This has not changed the desire the faithful have for listening to the Gospel, but only the medium by which they find the word of God and apply it to their lives. This series of reflections dedicated to the Daily Gospel as given to us by the Catholic Church by the Bishops is hoped to be another means that the faithful can retrieve the Gospel thru various electronic Kindle, iPhone, tablets and iPad. Jesus is invited to a tax collector's home, but there is grumbling the neighborhood and bad reports are being published in the town that Jesus is eating with sinners. A good respectable Rabbi would never do this. Jesus does it and still keeps the name Rabbi, which means teacher, when he reveals himself to Mary Magdalen after he rises from the dead. (Jn. 20:16) Jesus way works, and it has worked for over twenty centuries and will endure until the end of time. We need to ask ourselves whether we consider ourselves self-righteous or justified by the death of Christ, since the latter is what makes us just before God. Matthew reveals to us how Jesus responds to the accusations of his eating with sinners.
