Hamlet in Pieces

An examination of the ways in which Peter Brook, Robert Lepage and Robert Wilson have fundamentally reworked Shakespeare's famous play, "Hamlet". Brook, a theatre director, produced a "variation" on "Hamlet" in 1996, called "Qui est La". Lepage, a film-maker and theatre magician, produced a one-man "Hamlet" called "Elsinore", and Wilson, an American whose cultish hypnotic performance pieces are high on visual imagery, created "Hamlet: A Monologue", which is typically radical and austere. This book includes 16 pages of reproduction shots. It ends with a discussion of Brook's full-blown version of "Hamlet", which opened in Paris in November 2000.
