The purpose of this book is to give some insights into the process of anger, and give some ideas as to how an individual can move forward and free themselves from the more self-destructive elements that being angry can generate. The important thing is to use the reality of your daily events, and to be willing to question yourself as to how they affect you and what you do about them.
Often a good place to start is simply to jot down the major events of the day you are in or a previous day, take these events one at a time and simply ask yourself what emotions or feelings they have generated within you. This may give you some insight into your moods and what is affecting you or not. It is quite possible that this process of reviewing your day will make you much more attuned to the reality of your life, in a way that is somewhat similar to how the practice of meditation can give you a sense of being present in your day-to-day life.
Most religions and 12 step fellowships that are heavily into self-awareness recommend that people do what is often referred to as a review of their day. The intent behind this is for an individual to consciously look at their day and gain some insight into the process of what has happened to them. It is often recommended that an individual does this at night prior to going to bed, when they can evaluate the good and bad in their day, see what has happened to them and what they have done and be willing to make changes the following day accordingly. Anger and Fear are perhaps the two most common areas of emotional mayhem that can dominate some ones life. The power of both these emotions can quite literally take over a persons life. In recovery, there is often a pressing need for someone to be able to own what these feelings are, where they come from and how to process them. This need often becomes quite urgent as the person realizes that their sobriety rests on their need to make a settlement with their emotional turbulence. For many people this is their step one, in terms of understanding their unmanageability.
