I thought the writing quality lost something in its second half compared to the first; the time jumps and some shorter chapters just didn't entertain and grip as much as earlier in the book. However, I will say it was well-written, as I had such hatred for the characters that I couldn't put my Kindle down. It was not where I expected the story to go in terms of some of the events and it genuinely ruined my enjoyment of the book. But at the same time, I couldn't put it down. I will accept that I didn't like the whole story, but it was good enough that I HAD to finish it just to see how things ended (ironic, really?) Might watch the film, know I won't like it cause of the cast, and the film is never as good as the book. I think the casting will anger me cause Lily is early to mid-20s in this book, which adds to the heartbreak of the events. It made me remember my own similar experiences when I was the same age. I think that's why I'm angry at the book that made me care. update: I lowered my score. the second half really angered me I terms of pacing and feel the writing just wasn't there it lost impact when it really needed it. I watched the film. regret that too. also what stupid ass name is Ryle. I hated saying and reading it
SOMETIMES THE ONE WHO LOVES YOU IS THE ONE WHO HURTS YOU THE MOST
Lily hasn't always had it easy, but that's never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She's come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up - she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily's life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.
Ryle is assertive, stubborn, and maybe even a little arrogant. He's also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily, but Ryle's complete aversion to relationships is disturbing.
As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan - her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.
With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.
This book contains graphic scenes and very sensitive subject matter.
