I am listening to BBC radio dramatization with Sophie Thompson andCiaran Hinds.
The novel is a bildungsroman which follows the progress of its eponymous character, and examines her mental and moral maturity from infancy to adulthood. It focuses on Jane's hardships as a governess, and as a woman from the working class. Thus both the question of women's circumstances and that of class clash are alluded to in the plot by means of the heroine's relations with Rochester, her employer and later on suitor and husband. The novel dwells on the grim realities of the educational system and social injustice; how poor children were exposed to dire circumstances in cheap boarding schools, and how wealth and rank were the only requirements needed in polite society. Thus, in addition to dealing with Jane's process of maturity, the novel is also one of the state of England during the Victorian age; undertaking the task of illuminating those dark recesses which only daring novelists like Dickens had the valor to speak of.
all english classics seemingly run the same boring plot. Eyre does nothing different.
No me arrepiento de haber leído al fin esta historia, y en ciertos momentos me ha sorprendido mucho. Me ha encantado la personalidad de Jane, y la historia al estar contada en primera persona, me hizo congeniar más rápido con ella.A Rochester... no terminaba de entenderle. Demasiado voluble e imprevisible para mi gusto (personal).El estilo, al ser más clásico y antiguo, se me hizo un poco denso a la hora de leer.En resumen, me ha gustado la historia pero no tanto como otros clásicos.
He sentido tantas cosas leyendo esto que no se ni por donde comenzar, salvo preguntándome por qué no se me había ocurrido leerlo antes. Ha sido un viaje, de principio a fin, tan increíble, que lo he acabado con ganas de volver a empezar. La manera en la que Charlotte Bronte apela al lector da una sensación de confidencia que, aunque lo hubiese conseguido simplemente con su maravillosa narración, es muy satisfactoria... es como estar leyendo una carta (muy larga) de una amiga. Las aventuras son tan fantásticas que yo me encontraba todo el rato sorprendida ante los plot-twits y era incapaz de parar de leer. La historia de Jane crea una cierta resonancia con la propia y la manera en la que todos los hombres que conoce le hacen gaslighting o chantaje emocional me parece hasta cómica. Podría escribir una tesis sobre su relación con el señor Rochester y aún no sacar en claro si estoy completamente de acuerdo/conforme con ella.En fin, es un libro perfecto para revisitar cuando buscas una buena lectura.
