توضیحات

Set against the backdrop of post-war Europe in 1945, Claire Randall, a dedicated military nurse, finds herself navigating through the emotional turmoil of reuniting with her husband after the harrowing experiences of war. As the scars of battle linger both physically and mentally, Claire struggles to adjust to the quiet life that awaits her. The challenges of reintegration are compounded by memories of her time serving on the frontlines, each moment etching itself into her mind.

Amidst the peace, Claire discovers that the world she once knew has irrevocably changed. The reunion with her husband brings joy, but it is clouded by the echoes of conflict that refuse to fade. This new reality compels her to confront her own past, leading to unexpected revelations about love, loyalty, and the deep-rooted scars left by conflict.

As Claire navigates her dual identities and the weight of her experiences, she embarks on a poignant journey of self-discovery, where the remnants of war shape her perception of the future and the relationships that define her life. With a narrative rich in emotion and historical depth, her story unfolds as an exploration of resilience and the enduring power of love against the backdrop of a world striving to heal.

Well written, fast paced, interesting plot altogether, but I started falling off and not really listening about half way through, rewinding 3 or 4 times, in order to finally hear the story, not only listen to it. Some (long) scenes I consider excessive - at the time I thought they had some kind of impact on the “future” of the story, but was disappointed to find out it was in the end some kind of filler in the already very long book. Book keeps you captivated, I can’t deny that though. I’m not sure what I was really expecting going in - I postponed reading it for so long - time travel is not an easy subject. I guess I was waiting for more fantasy components added to the “witching” through time perspective, doctoring and such, or at least more of it. I find it rather odd that the shock of finding yourself in another time is non existent, not for Claire, nor for Jamie. They are just accepting it after figuring out that that’s what happened. For me - this was not believable and I would guess all the ramifications of being from the future in a world 200 years prior would have been different. But that’s just my opinion. The feeling is rather controversial. I will read the next book, as it seems that the ratings are better than for the first and maybe, just maybe, further development will be more logical and feel adjusted, all things considered.

On my second attempt, I found myself loving this book.Yes, there are hard scenes of sexual degradation but it was commonplace in the eighteenth century for such things to occur to enforce position and dominance.. But.The vast majority of this book is filled with beautifully written scenes of a Scotland that was (as it is now) searching for the freedom from Britain it so desires... My advice, is to stick to your guns and push forward through the post WW2 chapters till you are taken to Highland Scotland in all it's glory and despair...
