"Angry critics of Golden State Power & Light accuse the giant public utility of being a heartless monster, piling up profits at the expense of its hapless customers - the users of electricity and gas. Nim Goldman, the aggressive assistant Chairman strives to convince his colleagues of their short-sightedness and the public that a devastating electrical famine is alarmingly near. There is an activist who beleives him, an ex-atomic scientist who says maybe, the quadriplegic whose every breath depends on electric power, the news reporter who follows the story, a detective watching the power thieves, and others watching a pending catastrophe."
