Literally Saw for kids. If that isn’t twisted enough, add a comically ridiculous villain and a nazi to end up with whatever this was. Not my favorite by this author but not horrible.
I am not really a new person to splatterpunk. I'm not that adverse to the chilling content of cult classics and movies that maybe take scenes a little too far. I am not a stranger to the concept of extreme horror or even extremer splatterpunk.I do not want to like this book. I really want to give this book a 1, 1.5 or something along those lines. This book was horrific. This book was terrifying. I cried during three chapters and had to fight myself vomiting during one of the chapters, and that is why I am choosing to give it 4 stars. On the cover, Brian Keene is blurbed saying: "A genuinely chilling, uncomfortable novel that will make even the most jaded horror fan squirm." Beauregard has hit the nail on that head... disgustingly beautifully. This is filled with gore that made my face turn down so hard my cheeks hurt, that had me putting the book down every few chapters, utterly disgusted, and then picking it back up praying for some semblance of a happy ending. Holy hell. The amount of times this caught me out going "why on earth would you even try and do tha- she's 6. She is 6. That is why she is doing that, holy hell". Between the disgustingly detailed ghoulish writing, Beauregard mixes in a blend of horrifically horrendous dark humour (see: "She might've been right in the pocket book, but [character] was tired of listening to the old hag write checks with her mouth that her ass couldn't cash.") I should not be laughing and letting out little cackles when reading something with this level of violence, ghoulish imagery and similar.Beauregard's writing is devilishly good, enticing a page turner that consistently had my eyes itching with tears, covering my mouth in silent shock, yelling "NO" randomly much to the shock of my neighbours, and is the first book in years I have sat down and read in its entirety that is longer than 92 pages. This was a wild ride, and it was something I had picked up for a horror challenge as well as casual curiosity of hearing and seeing this book go viral, much akin to the way a horror movie goes viral every year for being "too traumatising" because a bunch of greatly under the age rating children picked it up behind their parents back. No. This is not that.Heed the content warnings. Heed the trigger warnings. Dead Dove: Do Not Eat.I need to go sue Aron Beauregard for extreme loss of enjoyment of life. And maybe order another book or two. This is ridiculous. I don't want to read anymore but I am waiting patiently to read yet another from him. I am at a loss for words. Before you pick this up, make sure to read the Playground Rules.
Tiene algunas inconsistencias y la traducción es muy confusa, también era muy predecible casi todo, pero aún así amé el libro, lo turbio desborda y ningún personaje se salva de eso.
