Project Hail Mary

I went into this book with HIGH expectations - so many people had so many positive things to say about the book and the audiobook so I did and immersive read for the first time. Characters - I loved the dry humor and interactions between the characters. I wish we had more time to sit with the main character's back story as it was slowly revealed to us (and to him). I expected a little bit more emotion considering the gravity of the consequences at every reveal. That's the only reason its not a 5 star book for me - yes the book is long so adding more information that doesn't contribute to the plot may feel like a waste of words but it would add more depth and connection. Maybe it would've been different if I didn't listen to the audiobook at the same time but I guess I'll never know.Plot - I loved the structure of bouncing between past and present. I usually despise it because it takes away from the momentum but I think it was done really well by Andy Weir. There were many despairing revelations throughout, but it often felt like the answers to get around these dead ends just came up with no problems - particularly near the end which was a little bit annoying. But I'm glad the book ended the way it did so that it wasn't a perfect end, although I would've looked more closure haha. All in all a great book! Would definitely recommend! Off to watch the movie now

Wow. Just wow. Love the author and his ability to create a new, full proof world. So much intellect went into this book and it shows. Slow build up in the begining and alot of travel scenes to build the plot. If you can get through that, then you unlock a beautiful world that we can only imagine. Thanks to Andy, I have yet again bawled my eyes out over a fictional character. My tears will forever be immortalized in these pages.

The movie for this made me read a book for the first time in 15 years, and this book got me back into reading books. A great story that feels like it was written for me, because it contains everything I love in it.
