3.5⭐sPredictable but wonderful.“Sometimes our paths must diverge from those we love,” Antonio said as they rode, side by side, scanning the surrounding mountains. “But if love is the highest power, our paths will converge again—if not in this world, then the next."

The Rebel Witch delivers an action-packed finale to The Crimson Moth duology, but for me, it didn’t quite capture the gripping intensity of the first book. The story picks up with Rune on the run after Gideon’s betrayal, forced into an uneasy alliance with Cressida Roseblood. Rune’s struggle to balance survival with the growing weight of her choices creates an intriguing moral complexity, though at times her decisions felt repetitive. The tension between Rune and Gideon remains a highlight. Their dynamic is layered with unresolved feelings and mistrust, as Gideon wrestles with his hatred for witches and the part of him that still cares for Rune. While their interactions are compelling, the emotional stakes didn’t hit as hard this time around, feeling more like a slow burn without the payoff of The Crimson Moth. The larger conflict—Cressida’s plans to reinstate the Reign of Witches versus Gideon’s determination to protect the Republic—raises the stakes, but the pacing occasionally falters. The middle section felt bogged down by prolonged political manoeuvring, which dulled some of the urgency. However, the action scenes were as thrilling as ever, and the climax delivered a satisfying resolution to the central conflict. While The Rebel Witch didn’t keep me as hooked as its predecessor, it’s still a solid read for fans of the series. If you enjoyed the first book, you’ll want to see how it all ends, even if the journey isn’t quite as spellbinding this time around.

I loved this duology. Was this book perfect no, but I enjoyed it so much I'll give it five stars anyway.

3.5⭐The weaker one out of the two but alright

I was super excited for this one had a hard time putting it down, but alas, at midnight I was only halfway through it and had to work early the next day, so I (reluctantly) went to sleep, otherwise I would have read it in one sitting. After the events of book one, I was worried that Rune and Gideon would be back to square one (or worse) and that it would get repetitive, but they found a new dynamic pretty fast and we got some really wholesome moments. The villain was totally irredeemable which I enjoyed, the story was just as great and entertaining as the first book, the only difference being that while I while totally blind sided by the plot twist of Heartless Hunter, I saw this one coming from afar, which is ok. Usually, duologies are not my favorites, because I get emotionnally attached to characters and want more time and adventures with them, but I must admit that this story is perfectly wrapped, without unanswered questions. I honestly don't know what more I could have wanted. This was a very very good read that left no space for disapointement.

4.5⭐⭐⭐⭐✨"𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿.""Rebel Witch" did not disappoint. Not even a little. The first book in the Crimson Moth duology, "Heartless Hunter," was one of my favorite fantasy books last year. It is a perfect YA Witchy Romantasy with all the elements that make my heart sing: enemies-to-lovers, a badass FMC, a grumpy MMC, and a fast-paced, well-balanced plot. I'm here to report that Kristen did it again! From page one until the end I hung on for dear life as the action (and yearning--so much yearning) delighted me. Readers are thrown straight back into the story where the first book left off with Gideon stalking Rune for a kill. Their journey against each other and Cressida is 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 and had me running to the book to sneak in as much reading as possible. I just had to see how everything would turn out! The ending made me cry and pulled me back together. ❤️If you love YA Fantasy, this duology is a must-read!
