I liked this one more than book 1! This one seemed more realistic. Good read/listen!

Heated Rivalry was a fast, addictive read with great chemistry and an intense rivals to lovers dynamic. I flew through it in no time, and the tension between Shane and Ilya definitely kept me turning the pages. That said, while it was entertaining, it didn’t fully hit me emotionally the way I expected. The repetition and long term secrecy made parts of the story feel a bit flat for me. Overall, it’s a fun and engaging hockey romance, but not a standout favorite.
Ilyaaaaa !! 10/10 is one of my favourite mm books. I would recommend reading all the book in series because they all are great, but you will see Ilya more, and the way he helps other people, not knowing himself that he is doing.
This book inspired the series of the same name; I, being in the UK, have not watched it but I’ve seen the actors who play Ilya and Shane so that certainly helped me visualise the two leading men in this; the second book in the Game Changer series. This story follows two NHL players in an enemies-to-lovers journey: one is quietly confident in his bisexuality but prefers to keep it private, while the other gradually comes to terms with his own sexuality over the course of their careers. Ilya's lively personality and quick wit bring balance, as he can lighten any mood with humour or sarcasm when things get too serious or too real for him or Shane throughout the book. Probably because he’s spent so long hiding his sexuality to everyone including his family. He wears a mask to protect himself from hurt or worse from everyone and no doubt recognises the fear he feels in what Shane thinks will happen to him. It’s funny because in Game Changer, I didn’t like what glimpses we had of Ilya so it’s great to see all the things we as a reader have assumed about him in book one slip away as his story is told. Their chemistry is off the charts and the animosity on the ice comes over into heat between the two men when they’re away from the lights and noise of the stadium and damn does this book get spicy because they may be wary of being caught but they don’t keep their hands off one another. However, it’s the times when they let each other in that made me love their story more than I had Scott and Kip from Game Changer; these two have (despite their refusal to see it for so long) built a relationship up even when they’re apart for months at a time or just having hookups in secret. As you read, you notice their relationship evolving, and when I was halfway through? I wondered how they could maintain the facade of being enemies. I also loved seeing their inner growth as they age, and the insights into the lives they’ve had - once again I resonated more with Ilya at times when it comes to moments with his father and I welcomed how Reid lets us see why he acts the way he does. Shane and Ilya’s story was one I couldn’t put down, they have heat, yes, but there’s so much more to their journey and I’m so glad I was wrong about the arrogant and argumentative Russian from book one. However, that ending at gone one in the morning had me silently cursing.
reread:idk, but this feels different feom when i first read it, it might be because of the show
Loved their chemistry and story. The scene where the parents find out is peak comedy.
Yes I have fomo and read this book because if the hype around the show. I can't watch it so then I'll read it hihi. The yearning in this book omg top tier. As far as I have seen clips of the show I think the show is a bit better. I don't know how to describe it but the writing isn't setting the mood or describing situations all that well. Where as in the show you can see what is happening and feel the emotions of the actors. The author is very good at writing spicy scene, but not the best at the rest still I really enjoyed it.
