It is 2058 in Australia. Jeremy Kinane, the Carbon Desk reporter at The Sydney Chronicle, is swept along a perilous journey that begins with a series of seemingly innocent and disconnected events. The drying, dying, withering earth in which he lives, stands as silent witness to the ever increasing danger he, and his newly rekindled love Suzie, encounter.Years of carbon trading has created a pool of gargantuan proportions worth billions of dollars and a temptation to the corrupt and criminally insane. ‘The Council’ is a group of wealthy, arrogant men and women who manipulate the price of carbon through seemingly terrorist activities in the region. This creates pressure on Australia to buy America’s help with surplus carbon points. The Prime Minister knows that trading his surplus will diminish the pool and spike the price of carbon but does he have a choice? With ever increasing bombings and the threat of devastation hanging over their biggest cities, a trade with the Americans seems imminent. Jeremy is thrust into the role of reluctant hero as the dark unseen forces of ‘the Council’ pervade his world. Doggedly pursued by a psychopathic assassin in the employ of the council, Jeremy survives largely on his wits.
