The little Quarterback

'The Little Quarterback' Gail Kirkman meets Steve Butowski whilst on a visit to New York. Both police officers, their encounter is immediately hostile. All the more so when she discovers he is a heroin addict. A fact which leave Gail faced with a dilemma when he is then sent on attachment to England. Should she keep his secret or inform the authorities? However when Michael, her son, finds himself in trouble with the police she blackmails Butowski into assisting him. Saying it is the price he has to pay for her silence. Forced into agreeing, a strange relationship then develops between man and boy. Especially when Butowski, coaching the school football team, makes Michael its quarterback. Love and understanding begins to develop between them. But Butowski is a firm believer in the family and attempts to reunite Gail with her former husband. Something which nearly succeeds until one day, overhearing a telephone conversation, her worst fears are founded. Butowski is dealing in drugs. But when bodies are discovered, with the finger of suspicion pointing at him, she realises something even more sinister is happening. Especially when she and Michael are visited by villains who threaten them both with violence unless Butowski hands over a certain package. However, Butowski is determined to see the package reach New York. And it is then Gail discovers that not only is there a contract out on him, but so does the New York Police Department admit he is expendable. Horrified, and despite the fact that the entire British police force is also searching for them, she seeks to help him evade captivity and reach New York. With Michael - and the football team - all playing their part in helping him achieve this.
