The Lost

A supernatural, coming of age romantic comedy-horror story, featuring, zombies, horses, a fertility goddess, the US Air Force, a sixteen year old boy with a one track mind and Walter Mitty tendencies, and a number of strong minded, determined young women. Set in 1969 in England and very much of that time and place, this is not an erotic novel, but it does contain sexual scenes and some strong language. From the Author. Describing this story is difficult. The book is most certainly magical realism. At one level, it’s a coming of age story where first love is hampered by a magic wooden carving with attitude. It’s also a zombie infested horror-comedy. There are sex scenes, though I didn’t write the book as erotica. Partly it is about my hero discovering that girls are people and not objects. It is also a period piece, it is set in 1969 for a reason, attitudes and knowledge were different back then. Old pipe-smoking men would discuss subjects late at night on television such Can women enjoy sex, and is that a good or bad thing? Meanwhile, many evil things that people did were hidden from public sight and blame fell on the victims if they were uncovered. This book touches on those issues. On a technical level, the narrative premise was that I would keep three stories in the air throughout, two real and one entirely in Jon’s head (shown in italics). These stories touch and intertwine before eventually merging into one big story, each requiring the others. One of my beta readers said; “I thought there were gratuitous sex scenes in this book until I got to the end when I realized they were all necessary.” Come on a journey with me back to a summer holiday in 1969.
