توضیحات

This month's highlight is a captivating tale of three sisters who immerse themselves in the suffragist movement and rediscover the forgotten art of witchcraft. It's an enchanting read, and we're thrilled to present an exclusive Illumicrate edition.

the biggest reason it wasnt a higher score  for me is I really think it could have been 3 seperate books - and that would be so on themeThere is a lot of dragging out and not enough as well. the pacing is good overall, but I felt there were more than a few moments that we could have sat in more and some that lost its sense of urgency in explaining the fine details of what was happening. there is also a natural 3 act element to the book (even though split into 5 parts) that could have worked as 3 short(ish) stories combined into one tale of witchcraft and womanhoodI really liked the themes of "if there's a will. There's the ways" and the links of spells kept secret in the many rhymes told to children or songs sung to soothe babes. It's something that rings true with a lot of folklore where something couldn't be written but can still be shared. it leant itself so well to the story, and seeing the spells in the rhymes at the start of each chapter was a great way to let you know what's to come without really spoiling itlooping back to what I personally didn't like - it's a chunky read. I am personally someone who likes smaller reads these days, so that is probably a large factor to this, but again, I really feel that 3 short stories would have worked better.  Also fits with the witchcraft side of the rule of three. Something pointed out in the book and a heavy theme of 3 sister, mother maiden crone, 3 injustices and so onAlso, it was a bit of a victim of so much happening in one story that by the end, you just kinda knew the knofe twist wasn't actually going to be that bad. It was a lovely end, but something a little more bitter sweet may have worked better - it also may not have as I am very happy with them being all okay in the end and the checkov gun went off as expected. but it would be nice if it had been a bit more damaginganother note is that it is deffinately the kind with a strong antagonist that is as slimy and horrid as you first precieve them to be but just keeps being a horrid man who is such a hypocritical slime ball it makes you so happy for his end. I did like the little twist of his true name, though, again, leaning in to the twisting of stories you think you know. hints hidden in song ectect. He also gives a great push to a nature vs. nurture story, a message of who we become if only one thing is different or one thing is pressent. you do have sooome sympathy - but he's still a bastardI think it is a story I will think about for a while as it is one that highlights an injust history but also has a whimsy that sticks with you

I wanted to like this more than I did. What I liked: there are 3 sisters who represent the triple godess archetypes of mother, maiden, and crone. The story weaved the sisters' lives, their shared family connections and traumas, women's suffrage, paranormal witching, and a history of witchcraft unique to the story. What I didn't like: forgetting where I was in the story after a 3 page tangent describing a room. I know this type of writing is a style, and at times it is lovely. Maybe I just have a poor attention span.
