Having previously enjoyed “The Neighbor Favor” by Kristina Forest, the first in the series, I was delighted to receive an e-book copy of this one from Goodreads Giveaway. This is a well-paced romance with relatable characters, Violet and Xavier. Though there is little that is relatable about Violet’s job as a stylist to the stars, you can relate to her commitment to her work and desire to live out her lifelong dream. Xavier is the less successful one on paper, being a teacher. While that is not typical of romance novels, I really enjoyed this flip as Xavier is the one worrying about whether he stands up to Violet’s expectations of him - plus his own expectations of himself. I also really appreciated the marriage of convenience trope, its usually one I avoid but it made sense here. The only part that didn’t quite work for me was Xavier and Violet’s previous relationship history, it didn’t quite feel strong enough to me. But I still read the second half of the book in one sitting, and finished the book with a smile on my face. I can’t wait to read the next one in the series, “The Love Lyric” out in 2025.
