The Unchosen

“I was not even 16 any more and me and my friends could not get a date. Some of the other girls had been dating since junior high school. We did not know what to do. So me and my two friends formed a little club of our own. We called ourselves 'The Unchosen' but we never said it out loud. To give a name to our forlorn state, to let others know that we were desperate, would be hitting below the belt. “We could not understand why the boys were asking the other girls out, but not us. So sad, but what could we do? We had to try something. We decided to hold a party, invite the boys and see if we could get them to come. “If we could get three boys, one for each of us, it would be perfect, but we knew that to get three boys we would have to invite six, maybe ten, because not all the boys would come. And what if our rival, Ann Allison showed up? She always got all the boys! We could never understand why. She was no Miss America, not better looking than we were! What was it about her? Was it her hair style? “Well, we can't spend the rest of our lives on the outside, watching other girls have dates and go to parties, while we sit at home reading some book. Why keep on pretending it isn't so? We've got to do something!” What Ellen, Debbie and Kay do doesn't always work out as they expect.
