The Vigil

"The Vigil" by Tam Lin | Scary Stories for Halloween

Otis Jiry narrates this story by author Tam Lin, about a girl named Mayet who doesn’t sleep any more. The situation is so serious that Mayet’s mother takes her to a doctor to try to find an explanation. “Last week I left for a minute to make tea,” her mother says, “and when she woke up and found me gone, she started screaming. I’ve never heard anyone scream like that.” When the doctor presses Mayet for a reason for her insomnia, she blames it on the presence of a man. “He looks like some kind of…dead animal,” Mayet says. “And he comes into my room and watches me sleep.” Listen (and read!) on to discover what exactly is visiting Mayet in the night.
