توضیحات

John, a courier for Mercy Hospital lab, is given instructions to immediately go to the Cinti Medical Building to pick up two blood specimens and rush them to the hospital for analysis. This was a strange request and outside any normal procedures. John soon discovers information about a deadly blood disease that is fatal to everyone except those who have type B blood and those who have not reached adolescence. At first the medical community didn’t know what it was, how it spread or how to cure it. What they did know was the virus spreads rapidly with a mortality rate of 100 percent.

John he was type B and through blood tests discovers his 14 yr old son Peter was the same. This meant that the disease would not affect them, but his wife Paula was type A and Beth, his 11 yr old daughter is type AB which means they are susceptible and could die from the disease.

John meets Joyce, a Center for Disease Control (CDC) agent, who is using the hospital labs to investigate this disease. They quickly become friends allowing him to learn more about the growing epidemic. He learns that a blood transfusion of non-contaminated blood can help slow down the effects of the disease. The blood banks are running low on non-contaminated blood, so the only other place to find it is from an adult who has not been infected, which is slim, or from a young adolescent who is too young to catch the disease.

John discusses the situation with his son, and explains how a transfusion could help prolong his mother’s life. Peter and his friend Ken conceive a plan to go out and find young blood donors and perform the transfusions. They have to face many dangers; one of their biggest fears is being caught by parents or the authority as they try to put possible donors to sleep, so that they can draw blood to determine their blood type.

As the disease takes its toll on the adult population, the number of adolescent gang starts to grow causing more problems throughout the communities. Problems like burglary, arson, and various forms of assault including rape and murder become commonplace. These gangs also hinder Ken and Peter’s hope for finding a blood donor should Paula become infected.
As time goes by, the death toll continues to climb. The disease spreads as Peter’s friends start to experience losses. John and his family continue to survive but the disease starts to affect his family as society continues to crumble.

The population of the world is decreasing fast but no one is sure of the numbers. There are deaths associated directly with the disease, but there are other factors. Gang fights are the number one killer of young people but many kids die during the winter months due to exposure or malnutrition. Robbery is also a big problem. The number one crime against young girls is rape.

Who will survive and what will society look like?
