Under the Wire

“They’re our horses and I should be on them!”

Born at the racetrack, Reid Widmark is only 16 and already on his way to becoming a professional jockey. He’s picking up races and has a special way with the best horse in his mother’s barn. One big win on Carmina, and his future is assured.
Then his mother takes a fall, and everything changes. Suddenly, people he thought were his friends are taking over—in the barn, with Carmina, in his life. With a fight at every turn, he’s ready to take off and go his own way.
What stops him is Ella, a new and true friend. Just in time, she alerts him to a big chance. Before long, Reid’s staring down the track toward the future he’s dreamed of. All he has to do is choose…

When it comes to writing about horses—and horse racing—Julie White is the real deal. I couldn’t put Under the Wire down. Full of accurate details about life at the track, this is a compelling coming-of-age story with a delicious equine focus. Fabulous!
