This book felt more like a preparation. Though, knowing what is coming, that seems fitting. Charity even gets a small vision of the final battle that will come.Darius will have decisions to make. Though I doubt his loyalty to Vlad is stronger than his loyalty and love for Reagan.But as for Charity, I get it now. I get why Devon had to leave when he did. It makes so much sense now after listening to it, even if it hasn't clicked for Charity. Though I am confused. Maybe I missed the explanation somewhere but how did Emery and Penny get to travel with Charity at the end when they were last seen with Devon and his pack. Maybe I missed that? I don't know. I guess I will find out next time I read this series because odds are I will eventually read it again.One thing I did find weird and that bothered me. When Charity and Devon's pack arrive at her childhood home, she and Devon head to her room to check it. And then they get very close to hooking up. While the rest of the pack is waiting for an unconscious Walt to wake up and keeping an eye on the street. The only reason they stop is because Devon is called out. But did they really think that was the right time to get it on? I get that they are horny for each other but come on. That's the last thing you need to be worrying about when Charity's magic is going crazy and you are trying to get her into the Realm.This book served as a good set up. By the end of this book, a good bit of the final army for the side of good is pretty much complete, save Darius getting his head out of his ass.But there is one person on the side of "evil" that still needs to be officially introduced. And he will be making an appearance in the set of three books. I am interested in seeing if we will get Darius's POV for the first time. I want to be in his head, even if it is from third person perspective. I want to see him freaking out when Reagan is taken from him. That man is too calm and collected. I want to see him flustered. Yes, I know he is an old vampire and his emotions are dimmed or about gone but with Reagan, it has already been shown that he isn't a normal vampire any more. And considering he is capable of love now, he should be capable of freaking out when the one he loves is taken to a place he cannot easily get her out of.Also, at the end, it is mentioned that another elder is involved and is turning vampires left, right, and center. And I am pretty confident it is Ja. It bothers me that she kind of just disappeared with the implication she will be joining the politics of the vampires again.But I guess there is only one way to find out.
