We Won: An Essay on What the U.S. Military Accomplished on the Battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan

"We Won", is one of the few books to detail the strategic victories won by the U. S. military on the battlefields of Afghanistan and Iraq. This essay translates U. S. tactical achievements on the battlefield into the long-term strategic accomplishments of degrading capabilities of Islamic terrorists, reducing their effectiveness, and creating a deterrent to future attacks. It provides a big-picture analysis of why we had to fight, and what our efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq have achieved for the long term, including an analysis from each battlefield, and an attempt to dispel some misconceptions about these wars. Many veterans and their families have been plagued by a gnawing sense of loss from their participation in these wars, believing that their sacrifice was spent on a frustrating counterinsurgency to try to 'help' the people of Afghanistan and Iraq. The author, an Iraq war veteran and military intelligence analyst, hopes that by setting the record straight about what we truly accomplished over there, those who have lost someone in these two wars might be able to see the full value of their loved one's sacrifice; that it was not in vain. The hope is also that any fellow veterans who may be struggling with doubt, might be able to better understand what we truly accomplished in Afghanistan and Iraq. In these crucial first battles of the war on terrorism, we won.

Note from the author: "I know it's not the best literary work on the subject, and I do not aspire to be a writer. This is just an honest analysis of the facts based on what I saw. Since no one else is highlighting the strategic accomplishments the U. S. military won in the fight against terrorism, I was compelled to write this essay. It is short, and probably could use more examples and references, but the goal was to keep it simple and high-level enough for folks to grasp. It's a starting point for setting the record straight about what we accomplished over there. Hopefully others will expand on this starting point."
