FINALLY. 😭
After all the suffering, misunderstandings, trauma and Ruby constantly thinking she's about to die, this volume actually gives us some of the emotional payoff I've been waiting for.
Ruby and Izek's relationship is easily the best part for me now. Izek finally starts acting like a man who actually has a wife he loves instead of someone who accidentally acquired a traumatized woman and doesn't know what to do with her.
Ruby's development is also really satisfying. She's still Ruby, but she's no longer just desperately trying to survive every second of every day. She's starting to believe that she actually deserves to be loved and protected.
The story can still be frustrating and sometimes the drama feels like it's being dragged out just because the author knows we'll keep suffering, but at this point I was too attached to care.
Honestly, this series is basically: Ruby suffers → Izek looks emotionally constipated → something horrible happens → Ruby suffers some more → Izek finally shows one (1) emotion → I lose my mind.
And somehow it works.
