A Bone to Pick With Murder

When a tenant stops paying rent, property manager Crystal Waters does what any responsible landlord would do — she knocks on the door.

She wasn't expecting to find Victor Hale dead in his armchair. She definitely wasn't expecting her three miniature dachshunds to find what the police missed.

Victor was quiet, paid cash, and kept to himself. The medical examiner calls it cardiac arrest. Detective Briggs closes his notebook. Case closed.

Except Bella doesn't drop things she finds under beds. Daisy doesn't bark at trash cans without a reason. And Minnie doesn't sit in the middle of a dead man's apartment with her ears flat unless something is very wrong.

The prescription bottle with the scratched-off label is only the beginning.

As Crystal untangles Victor's carefully hidden past — a nervous old friend, a daughter who arrived too quickly, and a former business partner carrying a twelve-year-old secret — she discovers that the quiet man in apartment fourteen had been building a case against a very powerful person for a very long time.

Someone made sure he never got the chance to use it.

With Lance working the official investigation and three opinionated dachshunds leading her to evidence no one else thought to look for, Crystal is about to learn that in Riverside Towers, the quietest tenants always have the loudest secrets.

Victor Hale spent twelve years waiting for the truth to surface.

Crystal Waters has a master key and three dachshunds.

Close enough.
