Telling how her ‎secret had been revealed by the Enchanter, how she was an outcast from her ‎home, that she must face peril and death in the desolation of Otherwhere to ‎destroy the evil within the ring and her hopeless awareness that there would ‎be nothing for her to come back to whether she succeeded or not. ‎
Darret was not an emotional man but Matta’s clear and unembroidered ‎recital pushed him almost to the brink of apoplectic fury. The shame he felt ‎the three men could see clearly enough; two of them were as shocked as ‎Darret himself that Rox was even capable of turning to the Guild, that the ‎Guild would be at her service without question.
